Sukkot

Sukkot

Sukkot, meaning “booths”, refers to the Jewish festival of giving thanks for the fall harvest. It also commemorates the forty years of Jewish wandering in the desert after the giving of the Torah atop Mt. Sinai. Sukkot is celebrated five days after Yom Kippur on the 15th of the month of Tishrei. During Sukkot we are commanded to dwell in a booth, so we build a sukkah and it is the only time in which we are commanded to rejoice.

At Temple Israel, our TI Family traditionally gathers to decorate our sukkah during our annual “Pizza in the Hut” celebration. This is a wonderful and fun event for every generation. On the Friday night during Sukkot, we host a harvest dinner in the sukkah followed by Erev Shabbat services in the Kraft Sanctuary.

This year’s Sukkot events includes:

Friday, Sept. 29th at 6:30pm – Service & Harvest Dinner – Celebrate Shabbat and Sukkot with a joyful worship service at 6:30pm led by Rabbis Carlie & Ryan Daniels and Cantorial Soloist Suzanne Guinane, followed by a delicious harvest dinner at 7:30pm!

Saturday, Sept. 30th at 9:30am – Smoothies in the Shack and Torah Study – Gather for learning followed by fruit smoothies and light brunch in the Sukkah!

Sunday, Oct. 1st at 12:00pm – Pizza in the Hut for Families – Enjoy Pizza in the Hut (Sukkah), shake the lulav & etrog, and participate in hands-on Sukkot activities!
