URJ camps employ approximately 2,000 Jewish staff members each summer across 14 camps. This weekend, more than 100 of those staff members will gather together in Philadelphia. They have been chosen to take part in the Olim Fellowship, which gives select first- and second-year counselors (college freshmen and sophomores) the opportunity for special leadership development and training.
Olim Fellows make a two-year c0mitment to their camps, and receive additional salary stipends, along with the opportunity to attend several weekend retreats like this one. Five camps currently participate in the fellowship: Camp Coleman (GA), Camp Harlam (PA), Crane Lake Camp (NY), Eisner Camp (NY), and Greene Family Camp (TX).
This weekend will include a special tour of the National Museum of American Jewish History, and various other Jewish and American historical sites, led by Rabbi Lance Sussman of Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, PA. URJ President Rabbi Rick Jacobs will also share his thoughts on leadership with the Fellows.
The retreat will culminate with workshops and Shabbat celebrations at URJ Kutz Camp in Kunkletown, PA. It promises to be an inspiring weekend for all of our young leaders!
