Empty Shelves at the New WPB Food Pantry after a Session Helping Others

The Food Pantry location where Temple Israel participates is at Urban League’s Community Services Center, 2107 N. Tamarind Avenue, which is in the heart of a neighborhood considered a “food desert” – void of any decent grocery stores. We are one of five founding-supporting congregations of this Pantry, and we provide volunteers the FIRST and THIRD Friday of each month. The Pantry is open to clients from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; volunteers start at 9:30 and help out until no later than 12 noon. Ellen Goldenson chairs FIRST Fridays and Ellen Flaum chairs THIRD Fridays.

Volunteer tasks include: unpacking delivered cartons of food, organizing and stocking the shelves, preparing the grocery bags for distribution, greeting and registering clients, managing data entry of recipients.

This Pantry only provides shelf-stabilized food products plus some housecleaning & personal hygiene needs.
