Religious School

Our Mission

At Temple Israel, we inspire and nurture students as they develop their Jewish identity and a lasting love of Jewish life. Grounded in Reform Judaism, our program provides a strong foundation through the study of Jewish holidays, lifecycle events, Torah, Hebrew, prayer, and core values. We emphasize tikkun olam (“repairing the world”) and deepen our connection to the land and people of Israel.

We proudly welcome and celebrate families of all backgrounds, including interfaith families, creating a community where everyone can explore Jewish life, learning, and tradition together. Our youth and family programs foster meaningful friendships and a strong sense of belonging. We strive to make Jewish learning accessible, engaging, and relevant—encouraging active participation and a lifelong connection to Judaism and the Jewish people.

Program Highlights

Preschool Program (Ages 3–5)
Meets twice monthly on designated Sundays. Through play-based and sensory learning, our youngest students explore Jewish holidays, rituals, and community with caring, professional educators.

Religious School (K–12)
Meets Sunday mornings and offers engaging, interactive learning rooted in Jewish values. Students experience music, prayer, and hands-on activities that bring Judaism to life.

Our program incorporates the #OnwardHebrew model, a sound-to-print approach that builds Hebrew fluency through listening and speaking before reading. Students are immersed in Hebrew through: T’filah (prayer) , Hebrew Through Movement , and Jewish Life vocabulary. This approach strengthens comprehension and confidence as students learn to read and lead prayers.

Hebrew Instruction & B’nai Mitzvah Preparation

Hebrew learning is personalized and flexible to fit your family’s schedule.

  • Grades 5–7: One-on-one private Hebrew instruction
  • B’nai Mitzvah Preparation: Students work with a dedicated tutor to learn their Torah portion and lead prayers

Families interested in beginning Hebrew prior to 5th grade are encouraged to contact Rabbi Carlie Daniels.

Teen Programs (Grades 8–12)

Madrichim Program (Teacher’s Assistants)
Teens serve as role models and leaders in classrooms while gaining valuable experience. Registration is required, along with a brief application. Teens can choose to receive a stipend or volunteer hours for their work.

Honeycomb Teen Philanthropy Program (Grades 9–12)
An eight-session leadership experience where teens explore real-world issues through Jewish values and philanthropy. Participants develop skills in leadership, collaboration, and decision-making, culminating in the awarding of a $10,000 grant to a nonprofit of their choosing.
